OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — An Oklahoma City police officer rode on the hood of a civilian vehicle during a pursuit of a fleeing minibike rider before taking the suspect into custody, according to police and video released of the incident.
The incident occurred March 6 when the officer attempted to stop two minibikes traveling without headlights near South Santa Fe Avenue. Both riders fled, initiating a pursuit through multiple streets and intersections, police said.
After the minibikes split up and one rider continued to evade, the officer exited his patrol vehicle and pursued on foot. At an intersection, the officer made contact with a passing driver and mounted the hood of the vehicle while directing the driver to follow the suspect, according to the police report.
The officer remained on the hood for a short distance before dismounting and tackling the minibike rider near Southwest 49th Street and South Sage Avenue. The suspect, identified as a 17-year-old, was taken into custody at the scene.
Authorities said the suspect faces multiple charges, including eluding police and traffic-related offenses. No injuries were reported during the incident, and the assisting civilian remained on scene.
