Police said the incident occurred when two devices were reportedly thrown toward a group of demonstrators as they passed near Gracie Mansion on the Upper East Side. Officials did not immediately report any serious injuries from the thrown devices, though law enforcement personnel responded swiftly to secure the area.

The NYPD’s Counterterrorism Bureau was leading the investigation, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other federal partners. Officers canvassed the vicinity for evidence and reviewed surveillance footage to identify the suspect, who fled the scene on foot, police said.

Authorities described the incident as potentially terrorism-related and said they were exploring any ties to extremist ideology. No arrests had been announced as of the latest update, and investigators urged witnesses and anyone with information to contact law enforcement.

Officials also said they were reviewing the devices to determine their construction and mechanism, and to assess any further risk to the public. The area around the protest route remained under heightened police presence as investigators continued their work.
