Miss. Sheriff’s Deputy Shot, Wounded while Serving Warrant

A Stone County sheriff’s deputy is in stable condition after being shot in the shoulder during an exchange of gunfire while trying to serve a misdemeanor warrant in Wiggins.

STONE COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) – Sunday morning, a Stone County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured in a shooting. 

Stone County Sheriff Todd Stewart says a deputy was attempting to pick up a suspect with a misdemeanor warrant on Carl Taylor Road.

After making contact, an unrelated person in the home ran from the deputy, then opened fire, striking the deputy in the shoulder. The deputy returned fire, striking the unrelated suspect in the leg. 

Both the deputy and the unrelated suspect are being taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is taking over the investigation.
