MAYNARD, MA — The police chief in Maynard, Massachusetts, has issued a special order temporarily modifying the department’s uniform policy to allow team-spirited gear in the days leading up to Super Bowl LX.

Under the order, sworn personnel may wear a New England Patriots winter hat instead of the standard issued winter hat while on duty through 7 a.m. on Feb. 9.

Civilian employees of the department are authorized to wear New England Patriots shirts or sweatshirts during the same timeframe as part of the temporary policy change.

The chief’s order emphasizes that all other uniform and appearance standards remain in effect and that the change is limited to headgear and specified clothing during the lead-up to the game.

Officials in the town also approved a related temporary change to the community’s name for Super Bowl Sunday, reflecting local enthusiasm for the event.
