LOS ANGELES, CA — A street takeover in Los Angeles over the weekend resulted in a crowd surrounding and vandalizing a Metro Rapid bus as dozens of people performed vehicle stunts and obstructed traffic, according to law enforcement accounts.
Video from the scene showed people climbing on top of the bus and tagging its windshield and rear window while the driver and passengers remained inside. Fireworks were set off near the bus, and at one point a black sedan drove into the crowd, though no injuries were immediately reported, officials said.
Los Angeles Police Department officers later impounded two vehicles associated with the takeover, but no arrests were made at the scene, according to a Harbor Division watch commander.
Responding officers said they sometimes arrive after participants have dispersed, and staffing constraints can limit enforcement actions at large, decentralized street takeovers.
The events remain under investigation, and police continue to monitor and respond to reports of illegal street takeover activity across the city.
