GLENVIEW, Ill. —A Glenview police officer died in a car crash while on his way to work, FOX 32 reported.

Officer Robert Fryc, 43, was involved in a two-car crash in Barrington, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report. The Barrington Police Department and the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County are investigating the incident. Authorities have not released details on what led to the crash.

Fryc had served with the Glenview Police Department since 2007, according to the report. Less than two weeks ago, he was honored at a village board meeting for his role in saving a fellow officer’s life last summer.

On June 4, 2024, Fryc noticed a colleague losing consciousness inside a car and called for medical help, according to the report. The officer was later diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. Glenview Police Chief William Fitzpatrick credited Fryc’s quick actions with saving the officer’s life.

“Officer Fryc was more than just a colleague,” Fitzpatrick stated. “He was a part of our family and a part of this community. Our hearts are broken by his passing, and our priority now is to support his loved ones and our department as we grieve this unimaginable loss together.”
