PORT ST. LUCIE, FL — Port St. Lucie Police Sergeant Erik LeVasseur was released from HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital on Jan. 8, 2026, after spending 37 days in recovery from critical injuries sustained during a shooting in December, the department said.
LeVasseur was shot in the face on Dec. 1, 2025, while responding to a call in the 11000 block of Southwest Lake Park Drive, according to police. The suspect involved in the incident was killed during the encounter, authorities said.
During his hospitalization, LeVasseur underwent multiple surgeries to address his facial wounds, which included complex reconstruction, and was treated with a tracheotomy as part of his recovery, police said.
Photos released by the department showed LeVasseur walking alongside his wife, supported by fellow officers and medical staff at the time of his discharge. The police department described the recovery process as “a long and painful road” for both LeVasseur and his family.
The Port St. Lucie Police Department planned a news conference to brief media on LeVasseur’s release and recovery, highlighting community support and the sergeant’s progress since the incident.
