TUCSON, AZ — Federal and local law enforcement agencies released surveillance images and video Tuesday showing a masked individual outside the Arizona home of Nancy Guthrie, who is believed to have been abducted earlier this month, officials said.
The footage, recovered from security camera systems at Guthrie’s residence near Tucson, depicts a person wearing a ski mask, gloves and a backpack tampering with a doorbell camera the morning of her disappearance. Authorities described the individual as possibly armed based on the visuals, though no arrest has been made in connection with the footage.
Guthrie, 84, was last seen Jan. 31 and reported missing the following day when she failed to attend a scheduled event, prompting a joint investigation by the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Investigators have said they believe she was taken against her will.
Officials on Tuesday briefly detained a man during a traffic stop in southern Arizona as part of the inquiry, but he was released without charges after questioning, and it remains unclear if he is connected to the person depicted in the surveillance footage.
Authorities continue to ask for public assistance and tips to help identify the individual seen in the released images and video, and the FBI has offered a reward for information leading to Guthrie’s location or the arrest of those responsible.
