FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Fairfax County Police Department on Thursday released body-worn camera footage showing officers’ response to a February domestic violence incident in Mantua that left a man dead and two family members fatally stabbed, officials said.

Police were called shortly after 5 a.m. Feb. 23 to an apartment in the 3900 block of Persimmon Drive on reports of a disturbance, according to department and media reports. Officers found a 54-year-old man armed with a curved dagger and engaged in a violent attack on his family members.

In the footage, officers repeatedly ordered the suspect to drop the weapon before firing when he allegedly continued attacking a male family member, police said. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two female victims, identified by media outlets as the suspect’s wife and daughter, were taken to a hospital where they died of their injuries. A male victim was hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said.

A 1-year-old child present inside the apartment was unharmed, removed from the scene by officers and placed into protective custody, police said.

Fairfax County police continue to investigate the incident, and the law enforcement response is under review by the commonwealth’s attorney to determine compliance with legal standards.
