OXNARD, CA — Oxnard Police Department Commander Scott Aaron was found dead Jan. 9 while attending a training assignment in Orange County, authorities said.
Aaron, who had served more than 21 years with the department, failed to report to scheduled training sessions on Jan. 8 and Jan. 9, prompting the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to conduct a welfare check at his hotel. He was pronounced deceased at about 9:20 a.m. that morning.
Officials said the cause of Aaron’s death remains under investigation, and no foul play is suspected; the Orange County Coroner’s Office is expected to conduct an autopsy.
Aaron joined the Oxnard Police Department in 2004 and was promoted to commander in May 2025. Over his career, he held a variety of roles including patrol officer, major crimes sergeant and patrol watch commander, the department said.
Before his law enforcement career, Aaron served in the U.S. Marine Corps, including assignments with a Security Force Company and the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines. His law enforcement tenure began in 1996 with the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office.
The department said Aaron was dedicated to his community and that he will be remembered for his professionalism and service. He is survived by his wife, two children, his mother and a grandson.
