Body camera footage captured a violent struggle in February that erupted in an exchange of fatal gunfire between a Milwaukee police officer and a suspect, leaving both men dead.

The eight-minute video of the Feb. 6 shooting was released by the Milwaukee Police Department on Thursday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Officer Peter Jerving, 37, and Terrell Thompson, 19, were both killed in the exchange.

Jerving and another officer responded to a report of an armed robbery just after 11:30 p.m., and they eventually encountered Terrell, who was identified as a suspect, just before 1:15 a.m.

A foot chase ensued, and the other officer began struggling with Thompson. When Jerving reached the two, Thompson pulled a gun with an extended magazine, and shots are heard in the video.

Jerving gets closer to the two men, who are still struggling, and a gunshot strikes the approaching officer, who returns fire. Both Jerving and Thompson were shot multiple times.

The Brookfield Police Department is investigating the shooting.
