BALTIMORE, MD — Baltimore police said a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team fatally shot a gunman who opened fire on officers and held hostages inside a Northwest Baltimore home on March 10, after responding to a reported burglary.
The Baltimore Police Department said officers were called shortly before noon to the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue when the suspect began firing from inside the residence, striking a 36-year-old officer in the leg.
During the incident, two women were inside the home; one jumped from a window to escape and another was reportedly held at gunpoint before SWAT personnel arrived. Both women were transported to a hospital with injuries that officials described as non-life-threatening.
A SWAT sniper engaged the suspect after he continued to fire on officers, fatally striking him, police said. The suspect was later identified by authorities as 33-year-old Jonathan Ingram of Baltimore.
The wounded officer was treated at a hospital and released, according to police. No additional details about charges or the suspect’s motive were released.
The Baltimore Police Department’s Special Investigations Response Team is conducting an ongoing investigation into the confrontation.
