A police officer was shot in Dupo around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, and another victim was found dead in a nearby home, authorities said.

The officer, whose identity was not released, was taken to an area hospital after he was shot in the 700 block of McBride Avenue. “The officer is out of surgery and in recovery,” said Dupo Police Chief Dennis Plew. The officer, a 12-year department veteran, remained in critical condition Monday morning.

The deceased victim is Darryl T. Mantz, 46, of North Fourth Street, Belleville, said St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. He was pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m. at a residence in the 400 block of McBride Avenue in Dupo.

Illinois State Police said they were also on the scene.

“One deceased victim has been located at a nearby residence,” state police said in a news release. ” The suspect is believed to be barricaded in another nearby residence. This is an active situation. Please avoid the area.”

The suspect was found dead in the residence Sunday night. Dye identified him as Reginald Allen, 40, of Dupo. He was pronounced dead at 12:10 a.m. Monday. The BND is working to confirm reports that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound

Other details were limited, including answers to questions about the circumstances surrounding the shooting of the officer and the death of Mantz and information about the shooter’s weapon.

Authorities are expected to release more details Monday.
