A California police officer’s extensive equine experience helped authorities wrangle a horse that had gotten away from its owner early Monday.

Dispatchers received a call about a horse that was on the loose and running along the streets of Burbank at about midnight, KTLA-TV reports. The horse, named Oreo, was still wearing a saddle when it was discovered grazing on a residential lawn, and a caller thought the animal could have thrown off the rider.

Police soon found the horse’s owner at a bridge in the city’s Equestrian District. But the horse’s owner didn’t go to the animal. Instead, the animal was brought to its owner, thanks to Officer Nicholas Moreno and his upbringing.

“Thankfully, one of the responding officers was skilled in horseback riding and made for a quick reunion with the owner,” the city stated in a release, praising Moreno, who grew up around horses, for calmly mounting and riding the horse back to its owner.

No one was injured in the incident. The owner said Oreo had become spooked while the two were out on a ride.
