FOSTORIA, OH—A police officer suffered minor injuries when a man attempted to stab the officer through the window of a patrol car, according to police.

Sophine Williams, 26, of Toledo, narrowly missed the head of officer Jennifer Muro in the attack Monday, a news release from the Fostoria Police Department says. Williams used a hand-held steel rod that was about 12 inches long, police say.

Muro was called to an apartment complex Monday after police received reports of an intoxicated male who was being violent. When Muro arrived, police say Williams approached the patrol car and stabbed through the driver’s-side window.

EMS workers arrived and tried to help Williams, but he remained combative, police say. Williams eventually was taken to the emergency room at Fostoria Community Hospital. He was arrested and charged with burglary, felonious assault and vandalism.

Muro was taken to the hospital for treatment after she received cuts on her face from broken glass. Glass also was in her eyes, police say.
