Body camera footage captured a dramatic rescue by Nevada police officers when they pulled two people from a SUV that had overturned and crashed into a ravine last week.

The incident happened Nov. 26 while Reno police were working the scene of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, KRNV-TV reports. Another SUV didn’t notice the road closing and did not slow down at a stop sign.

The SUV missed the police officer and plunged down an embankment, ending upside down in a water-filled ravine. Police body cameras show the officers racing down the ravine to check on the condition of the vehicle’s occupants.

The officers entered the frigid water and begin calming and reassuring the driver and a passenger, who were both alert. Then, the officers pulled the two people to safety.

The driver and passenger were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. The driver faces multiple traffic violations.

“Chief (Jason) Soto would like to commend the officers, and emphasize that this is an example of the selfless action Reno Police Officers are willing to take for their community,” the department stated in a social media post.
