We’re beyond proud of her actions and the lives she likely saved because of her acts last night.”

The officer, who was not identified, was injured by the gunman in the shooting and taken to the hospital in stable condition. She had undergone one surgery, and she was expected to need more, although doctors did would recover.

ccording to police, the Lakewood officer confronted McLeod after the accused gunman had fatally shot four people in the Denver area. She ordered McLeod to drop his weapon, and he opened fire.

The officer, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was struck in the abdomen, and she returned fire. Her shots fatally struck McLeod.

“In the face of being shot, in the face of danger, she was able to not only save others from this terrible tragedy but also neutralize the threat,” Romero told The Denver Post.
