Cop bloggers claim that Mayor Kenney and Police Commissioner Outlaw have targeted a police inspector for retaliation, after he gave truthful testimony in court about who gave the final order to launch tear gas against protesters who were illegally blocking the Vine Street Expressway during rush hour.
According to Kenney and Outlaw, the teargassing of the protesters last year during the George Floyd riots was a rogue decision made solely by Dennis Wilson, a since-demoted deputy police commissioner.
But Inspector Winton Singletary, who was at the Vine Street Expressway on June 1, 2020, before the tear gas canisters were launched, testified in court last month that on the day of the riots, Wilson was in “constant contact” with the “on-site incident commanders,” whom Singletary repeatedly identified as Police Commissioner Outlaw and Mayor Kenney.
Singletary further testified that he heard Wilson say over police radio that he had received final approval to tear gas the protesters, an approval that Singelary said came not only from Outlaw, but also her boss, the mayor.
The bloggers, widely believed to be cops, made their charge today on muckrak. The bloggers also claimed that the police tapes from the day of the Vine Street riots have been deliberately removed from public access on broadcastify.com to facilitate an ongoing cover-up.
“Mayor Kenney and Police Commissioner Outlaw are hiding them because they are clear evidence of their lying,” the bloggers wrote.
“Meanwhile, a courageous police commander, Winton Singletary, stepped up and provided court testimony refuting the two liars,” the bloggers wrote.
“And be advised of this: we know that Kenney and Outlaw have targeted Singletary and his career,” the bloggers wrote. “They can’t intimidate him like they did Wilson, but they have pledged to make things difficult for him despite the FOP’s support.”
Big Trial has previously reported that several cop sources say that Wilson agreed to take the fall for the mayor and police commissioner after he was threatened with being arrested by cop-hating District Attorney Larry Krasner, who, in the past four years, has filed 52 felony indictments against cops. If convicted, Wilson would have not only lost his police pension, but also a DROP bonus of some $800,000.
So, to protect his pension and DROP bonus, sources say, Wilson agreed to become a scapegoat, accept a voluntary demotion plus an annual $30,000 pay cut.
Now, the cop bloggers claim the city’s top officials have targeted Inspector Singletary.
“For starters, [Singletary] can now expect his career to become overnight mediocre and no civil service promotion/deputy commissioner appointment for him despite 35 years of in-the-trenches experience,” the bloggers wrote. “At least that’s the sentiment coming out of both the mayor’s office and police commissioner’s office.”
“We are appalled and stand with Police Inspector Winton Singletary.”
On Oct. 19th, Singletary, a 35-year veteran of the police force and a former SWAT team captain, testified in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court at a preliminary hearing for former SWAT team Officer Richard Nicoletti. Outlaw fired Nicoletti for pepper-spraying three protesters kneeling on the Vine Street Expressway.
According to sources, Singletary, a workaholic who’s widely respected within the department, is currently number four on the chief inspector list, but Outlaw won’t promote him.
A spokesperson for the police commissioner, Sgt. Eric Gripp, wrote in an email, “We’re not going to comment on rumor and innuendo reported in an anonymous blog.”
Outlaw has also aided the cover up efforts by repeatedly ignoring requests to be interviewed by the police department’s own internal affairs bureau regarding her actions on the day of the Vine Street protest.
A spokesperson for Mayor Kenney was last seen hiding under a desk.
The cop bloggers, who previously outed Outlaw in a widely read exposé as a coddled, lightweight desk jockey and identity politics hire, also took a shot at the city’s paper of record for joining the official cover up over the teargassing, rather than call out the mayor and police commissioner for lying.
“Meanwhile, The Philadelphia Inquirer/Daily News is not asking the City, on behalf of the people, to release the tapes because that would involve seeking truth instead of narrative story-telling,” the bloggers wrote.
“Specifically, it would endanger the narrative that both low-hanging fruit white SWAT officer Richard Nicoletti and patsy white deputy commissioner Dennis Wilson are responsible for the deployment of tear gas on Vine Street protesters.”
“The City should post the police radio transmissions on the Philadelphia Police website because they are in the public interest, and this would demonstrate accountability and ‘transparency,’ which they claim they are committed,” the bloggers wrote.
Gabriel Escobar, editor and senior vice president of the Inquirer, did not respond to a request for comment.
Once again, in covering up the truth, the Inky, the mayor and the police commissioner, are all playing on the same team.
